Children's active play: self-reported motivators, barriers and facilitators
The article centers around the theory of children and active play correlating when it comes to long-term health and happiness and other benefits. Physical activity is a very important in a child's physical health and mental wellbeing but it tends that children do meet the recommended levels. Since researchers have suggested that active play had the potential to make a valuable contribution to children's overall physical activity. Researchers conducted an experiment with a total of 77 children 10-11 years old, (28 females and 49 females) who were then examined to see their playing methods and then questioned. The children were from various school , some high deprivation, middle and then low. Researchers concluded that the sense of enjoyment stemmed from socializing, preventing boredom, health benefits, and freedom. Kids enjoy being with their friends and meeting new people which also provides a way not to sit at home, through playing kids have the freedom to burn off energy and do things they like which in turn makes them happy. These fours aspects that come from active play all tie into one another and it's very unlikely there would be one without the other. Factors that limited active play were mainly the parents. Researchers found that when children are out parents tend to have strict rules because of social fear that they'll be hurt. This can prevent a child from fully being able to experience all four positive attributes of active play. With technology now parents can lessen their worries and be able to communicate, this makes it easier and increases the number of kids that will get the recommended levels of play which is always a positive. This article informs readers who may not have been fully aware of what the positives were to children playing are and can help the next parent in providing their child with the opportunity of active play.
